PHUKET TRANSPORTATIONS
Traveling around in Phuket is quite convenient. Most of all the accommodations are quite small enough to walk and there are established not far from the beaches or restaurants. If you'd rather not walk or if your hotel is not on one of the main beaches, then your staff hotel can arrange taxi or shuttle bus for you. If you want to discover the island on your way, there are plenty of services of hiring cars or you can take the local bus. There are two types of local buses on this island first is shuttle bus or “Songtaew” which run between Phuket Town and the main beaches, and also the “Air-conditioned Buses” which service at the Phuket Town area to neighbor provinces or to Bangkok.
Local Shuttle Buses (Song Taews), these local Shuttle Buses run regularly around beaches between 7.00am and 6.00pm. There have no bus stops along the road that means buses will be stopped anywhere on the route as passengers wave their hand for getting on the busses.
In most areas, your best chance of catching a bus is to go to the main area of the town sooner or later bus come along. In Phuket Town, head for the market on Ranong Road where you will find Local Shuttle Buses (Song Taews) waiting to go to destinations. Standard cost for trips to/from Phuket Town to/from locations such as Patong, Surin beach and Kamala beach is around 15-20 Baht.
